When Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge opened our gates to seven African lions rescued from a closed roadside facility in Quebec, we knew this historic international rescue would change their lives forever. What we didn’t know was that it would also bring two very special new faces into our TCWR family: Reggie and Archie, the cubs born to their courageous mother, Nirvana, during this complex, multi-agency rescue effort.
We are thrilled to introduce these two young boys to you — and invite you to follow along as they grow, learn, and experience the world for the very first time.
Two Brothers, Two Personalities — One Fresh Start
Reggie and Archie arrived at Turpentine Creek in October 2025 at just three months old. Though born into uncertainty, they now have the promise of a safe, fulfilled life at the Refuge.
Archie
The smaller cub at birth, Archie wasted no time catching up — and even getting ahead. Adventurous and bold, he’s usually the first to investigate something new. A log pile? He’s climbing it. A new scent? He’s rolling in it. A new enrichment item? Archie calls dibs.

Reggie
Reggie, the gentler of the pair, takes life at a more thoughtful pace. Observant and calm, he often hangs back at first, watching his brother’s antics before deciding how he wants to engage. His curiosity grows each day, and with it, his confidence.
Together, under Nirvana’s steady, loving presence, they are thriving.
Cubs Experiencing the World for the First Time
Reggie and Archie are still so young — just beginning to discover what it means to be lions. Every week brings a new “first”:
- First time exploring grassy habitat
- First time discovering a pumpkin or a boomer ball
- First time testing out a tiny cub roar
- First time meeting new neighbors through a shared fence
- First time racing, wrestling, and learning boundaries
At TCWR, we believe these early experiences should be safe, enriching, and full of opportunity. And because these cubs have their whole lives ahead of them, we want to bring you along for the entire journey.
Follow Their Growth Into Majestic Mature Lions
Reggie and Archie will spend years growing into the mature male lions they are destined to become. Their manes will come in, their personalities will deepen, and their confidence will bloom. Watching those transformations — from playful cubs to powerful adults — is one of the most meaningful parts of sanctuary life.
Over the coming months and years, we’ll be sharing updates, photos, milestones, enrichment highlights, and behind-the-scenes moments, giving our supporters a rare chance to witness a rescued cub’s journey into adulthood.
This is a story only possible because of rescue, refuge, and supporters like you.
A Future Filled With Care, Safety, and Respect
Here at Turpentine Creek, Reggie and Archie will never be exploited for breeding, handling, or entertainment. They will never know fear, deprivation, or instability again.
What they will know is:
- Lifetime veterinary care
- Plenty of space to explore
- Daily enrichment that challenges and engages them
- Compassionate keepers who respect their individuality
- A stable home where they can grow into confident adult lions
Your belief in our mission makes this possible.
Welcome to TCWR, Reggie and Archie
Their story is just beginning — and we’re honored to share it with you.
Stay tuned for updates, milestones, and glimpses into their daily adventures as they navigate cubhood and grow into the magnificent lions they’re meant to be.
Thank you for supporting their journey, and for helping us give these boys the safe, loving, forever home they deserve.
