Changing the Way We ‘name” Animals

Shakira II is typically referred to as Mama Shakira, since she is the mother of Tanya, Kizman, Blackfire, Rocklyn, Peyton, and formerly Snowball.

For over 30 years, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge has rescued animals from lives of abuse, neglect, and abandonment in the exotic pet trade—giving each one a safe, loving, and permanent home. Every rescue is unique: every story, every transformation, and every personality. Even their names tell a story. With more than 400 animals rescued over the years, some share the same name, which can lead to confusion when both are living at the Refuge. We’ve always honored each animal’s individuality by keeping their given names—adding a number when needed, like Jasmine II or James III. But now, we’re taking this a step further. We’re thrilled to announce a new way for our supporters to make a lasting impact: by sponsoring a middle name for an animal in need. This is your chance to honor a loved one—or your commitment to our mission—by becoming part of their story. Learn how to sponsor below.

Sponsor an Animal, Give Them a Middle Name, and Make a Big Impact

Here’s a fun way to make a serious difference: You can now sponsor one of our animals exclusively for a full year—and give them a middle name in the process!

Some of our residents share names, so to tell them apart, we’ve traditionally used Roman numerals (like Jasmine II, Jasmine III, etc.). But now, with a $10,000 sponsorship—which covers all the costs for one animal’s food, vet care, and habitat maintenance for a year—you can help one of those animals stand out with a special middle name and support their care every single day.

Meet the Newly Named

So far, two of our Jasmines have gotten the middle-name treatment thanks to generous donors:

    • Jasmine Magnolia (formerly Jasmine II)
    • Jasmine Skye (formerly Jasmine III)
Jasmine Magnolia (formerly Jasmine II) on the left and Jasmine Skye (formerly Jasmine III) on the right.

Both of these girls now have unique names that reflect their personalities—and they’re each fully sponsored for the year.

Coming Soon: A New Name for Shakira III

Another donor has stepped up for Shakira III, one of the animals recently rehomed from Crown Ridge. Her middle name will be announced soon—stay tuned!

Now Available: Name and Sponsor Nala II

Right now, we’ve got one more naming opportunity open: Nala II, an African serval who came to us after a traffic accident in Missouri changed her life forever. She was being exploited, but now she’s safe, healing, and settling into sanctuary life.

This is your chance to be her exclusive sponsor for the year and give her a middle name that marks this new chapter.

Nala II needs a middle name! Will you give her that honor?

Want to Be Part of It?

A $10,000 sponsorship covers everything your chosen animal needs for the year—and gives you the one-of-a-kind opportunity to add a meaningful middle name to their legacy.

Let’s keep changing lives—one middle name at a time.
