Big Cat Rescue Cat’s
Now Call Turpentine Creek Their Forever Home
Habitat expansion has been part of the TCWR’s strategic plan long before we began our capital campaign in 2020. For years, our team discussed where and when we could build more habitats to be ready for large-scale rescues. The sizeable clearing on Refuge property that had been a hayfield in the past century was our most logical choice. With the passage of the Big Cat Public Safety Act (BCPSA) in late 2022 and the request in January of 2023 from Big Cat Rescue to take in roughly three dozen cats, our 13-acre Freedom Field Expansion became a critical priority.
Freedom Field is almost twice the size of Rescue Ridge and our expansive Natural Bear Habitats combined. Since our team began working alongside contractors last March, our goal was to finish the necessary habitats in time to welcome the new 33 Big Cat Rescue cats.
What Have You Missed?

MaryAnn
MaryAnn took a trip to our onsite, state-of-the-art Jackson Memorial Veterinary Hospital. She received her annual vaccines and was spayed as part of preventative care. It was also discovered that she has arthritis in her elbows, knees, and a few vertebrae.

Kimba
Kimba received a field exam from our staff Veterinarian, Dr. Kellyn, in his habitat nighthouse, with the Animal Care Staff. We found a piece of bone lodged in his mouth and we were able to remove it before sending him on his way.

Shiloh
Shiloh patiently stands by the fence, waiting for his meds, showing his trust in his caregivers. Shiloh often finds comfort sleeping in his igloo, on his bench or curled up in his den. Recently, he was put on a specialized diet of boneless chicken.
