Tigger’s story illustrates the horrors behind the exotic pet trade in the U.S. Rescued from upstate New York, his previous owner was illegally buying, breeding, and shipping small exotic cats from the wild in Africa. He had sold 32 exotic animals to private owners before being brought to justice by the New York Department of Conservation and World Animal Protection. Tigger was rescued in 2018 by Turpentine Creek with two other servals, Enzo and Sammy. These three arrived with intestinal parasitic worms and were treated immediately, along with preventative vaccinations. Additionally, Tigger was four-paw declawed, which will continue to affect his quality of life as he ages. Authorities placed the other animals seized from this black market wildlife dealer at other Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance (BCSA) facilities.
Tigger is a spirited Savannah cat that lives in one of the spacious serval habitats along the educational tour loup. He makes his presence known with his constant vocalizations. Despite his size, he exudes a “small but mighty” attitude, confidently trying to befriend the larger servals in his habitat. Tigger is more conflict-avoidant than his larger habitat mates, but if there is a challenge, Tigger is often the victor. His determination and feisty personality make him unique.
