Smalls was rescued in October 2016 by an accredited Florida sanctuary from Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in northern Black Hills, South Dakota. What started with a routine USDA inspection resulted in them revoking the sanctuary’s license and forcing them to surrender their animals. The USDA found issues affecting the animals significant enough to order their removal. The Florida facility took in Smalls, who arrived with three other bobcats and two cougars. Shortly after her arrival, she received a complete veterinary exam, including preventative vaccinations, and was microchipped and spayed.
In early 2023, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) agreed to take 33 wild cats from the Florida sanctuary accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). Smalls was one of those cats and now calls Freedom Field her forever home. Smalls has a quiet personality and has slowly transitioned to her new home. She is known for her playful and engaging personality. Smalls loves to follow staff and interns around her enclosure’s fence line, curious about their activities. Smalls delights in rolling around with her enrichment items, showcasing her playful nature. Regardless of the weather, she enjoys sunning herself on top of her den.
Your contribution helps provide them with nutritious meals, veterinary care, habitat maintenance, and enrichment activities.
