Shiloh's Story

Species: Bobcat (Lynx rufus)

DOB: January 1, 2008

Sex: Male

Arrival: December 29, 2023

Shiloh was first rescued in 2019 from a closing pseudo-sanctuary in Los Angeles, CA called Wildlife Waystation. The 43-year-old facility closed its doors after extensive damage from the Creek Fire in 2017 and significant flooding in 2019. An accredited sanctuary in Florida rescued Shiloh with two other bobcats and a Savannah Cat (a hybrid cat species created by an African Serval and a domestic housecat). The California Department of Fish & Wildlife Services rehomed the remaining animals to other sanctuaries.

In early 2023, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) agreed to take 33 wild cats from the Florida sanctuary, accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). One of those animals was Shiloh, who now eagerly runs up to TCWR staff at the sound of his name. He patiently stands by the fence, waiting for his meds, showing his trust in his caregivers. Shiloh often finds comfort sleeping in various cozy spots in his habitat, such as his igloo, on his platform bench or curled up in his den. Despite the constant noise from his lively neighbors, Shiloh remains unfazed, maintaining his calm and relaxed demeanor.
