Nabisco's Story

Species: Bobcat (Lynx rufus)

DOB: May 1, 2016

Sex: Male

Arrival: December 14, 2023

Nabisco arrived at an accredited Florida sanctuary in October 2016 from a “pseudo-sanctuary” called Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in northern Black Hills, South Dakota. What started with a routine inspection resulted in the USDA revoking the facility’s license, forcing them to surrender their animals. The USDA reported issues affecting the animals significant enough to order their removal. The Florida sanctuary took in Nabisco, who arrived with three other bobcats and two cougars. Shortly after his arrival, he received a complete veterinary exam, including preventative vaccinations, and was microchipped and neutered. In 2020, they introduced Nabisco to a young bobcat named Flint, and the two bobcats have become companions and have shared a habitat ever since. In early 2023, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) agreed to take 33 wild cats from the Florida sanctuary, accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). One of those animals was Nabisco.

Nabisco is a spirited bobcat with a lively personality. He delights in scent enrichment, often enthusiastically rolling around in it. This previous summer, he seemed cautious about the new pool his care team provided, but he showed much curiosity towards it. Unfortunately, the care team never saw him venture to dip a paw inside. He enjoys spending time with his companion Flint, especially in the shaded areas of their habitat. Nabisco’s favorite retreat is a snug spot he found wedged between the den and the fence, where he can comfortably observe his surroundings while feeling secure.
