Aria's Story

Species: Tiger (Panthera tigris)

DOB: October 1, 2005

Sex: Female

Arrival: October 20, 2023

Likely discarded from a cub petting scheme, Aria ended up in a private owner’s backyard without federal oversight. Neglected for over four years, she suffered horrific injuries. In September 2019, the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) seized her, finding her with open wounds exposing muscle and bone. The ODA warned she might not survive and transferred her to a Florida sanctuary. Aria arrived with broken teeth and severe wounds but remained sweet and affectionate. Despite surgeries and proper care, her resistance to antibiotics made healing difficult. Eventually, further surgeries led to a whole life and a new life of sanctuary.

In early 2023, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) agreed to take 33 wild cats from the Florida sanctuary accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). Aria was one of those cats and now calls Freedom Field her forever home. Aria, a resilient tiger, thrives on interaction with her keepers and enjoys the company of people. She exhibits her playful nature on more relaxed days by running around her enclosure and engaging with her neighboring tigers, showcasing her vibrant energy. In contrast, warmer days find Aria basking in the sun, contentedly napping and soaking up the warmth.
