Beacher is a first-generation (F1) Savannah Cat. A Savannah Cat is a hybrid species resulting from the intentional breeding of an African Serval and a domestic housecat. His previous owner purchased Beecher as a seven-week-old kitten from a Pasco County, Florida breeder for $15,000. Despite thorough research, the owner was unprepared for the challenges of caring for an exotic wild cat and soon realized how aggressive even a hybrid can be. Beacher’s owner had him declawed to help minimize the impact of his wild nature, but this didn’t stop his instincts to hunt, play, or stalk. As things escalated and after a few scares of him escaping his owner’s home, she surrendered Beacher to an accredited Florida sanctuary as a young adult.
In early 2023, Turpentine Creek agreed to take 33 wild cats from the Florida sanctuary accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. One of those animals was Beacher. Beacher is a very social and vocal cat who meows at anyone nearby, whether human or feline. He loves to perch on high benches and watch his keepers work, but he is equally happy following them around the grounds. Beacher enjoys interacting with his environment, often munching on grass while watching the activities around him. His habitat includes various enrichment items, such as natural rocks, artificial nooks, and vegetation, encouraging him to use his natural instincts.
Your contribution helps provide them with nutritious meals, veterinary care, habitat maintenance, and enrichment activities.
