Scar's Story

In May 2025, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) partnered with Humane World Canada, Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, and The Wildcat Sanctuary to rescue seven African lions from a closed roadside facility in Quebec. This was TCWR’s first international rescue.

In October 2025, TCWR brought six lions back to the Refuge for lifelong care, including Scar and his brother Mufasa. The two have been inseparable since birth, grooming, playing, and resting side by side — a bond that continues at TCWR.

Scar is confident and curious, often the first to explore new enrichment or toys before his brother joins in. Together, the brothers enjoy lounging on their bench, stretching in the grass, and playing games that include chasing toys down the slope. After playtime, they often nap side by side under the sun.
