Santana's Story

Species: Bobcat (Lynx rufus)

DOB: May 10, 2010

Sex: Female

Arrival: September 15, 2022

We rescued Santana in September 2022 from Geuda Springs, Kansas. Santana was purchased as a ‘pet’ in Montana, spayed, and front-paw declawed. Due to tragic circumstances, Santana’s previous family could no longer care for her, so they contacted Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR). As a founder of the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance (BCSA), TCWR contacted all sanctuaries that care for small wild cats to help place this 12-year-old bobcat into a reputable lifelong home. However, due to the numerous rescues nationwide, no open space was available for Santana other than at TCWR.

Santana is a spirited bobcat who enjoys afternoon naps in both shady and sunny spots of her habitat. She is keenly interested in certain scents of perfume and spices, often investigating and climbing her logs and platforms to view her surroundings and neighbors better. Santana loves boxes, delighting in the large fort-like ones the interns provide and rolling around in them all day. Her favorite resting spot is a cozy hammock in her habitat, where she relaxes and watches birds, fully immersed in her peaceful yet stimulating environment.
