Mufasa's Story

In May 2025, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) partnered with Humane World Canada, Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, and The Wildcat Sanctuary to rescue seven African lions from a closed roadside facility in Quebec. This was TCWR’s first international rescue.

In October 2025, TCWR brought six lions back to the Refuge for lifelong care, including Mufasa and his brother Scar. The two have been inseparable since birth, grooming, playing, and resting side by side — a bond that continues at TCWR.

Mufasa is affectionate and playful, often engaging with enrichment items while staying close to his brother. Together, the pair enjoys lounging in the grass, exploring their habitat, and chasing toys down the slope. After playtime, they often nap side by side under the sun.
