Nala 2's Story

Species: African Serval (Leptailurus serval)

DOB: November 23, 2021

Sex: Female

Arrival: November 22, 2024

In November 2024, a Missouri couple traveling with their two privately owned African servals were involved in a tragic car accident. One of the servals, the male, did not survive the accident. As the owners recovered in the hospital, the Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) took in the remaining female, Nala 2. Shortly afterward, the APA contacted Turpentine Creek to provide her with a more permanent home.

While Nala 2 received an initial exam in Missouri, TCWR performed an additional exam upon her arrival and began the necessary supplements to address any metabolic bone disease. After stabilizing this highly stressed serval, TCWR released Nala 2 into her spacious Freedom Field habitat. Her personality is very aggressive and she wants nothing to do with people, sometimes even making it challenging to care for her. It is hard to believe that an animal of Nala 2’s temperament was kept for so long as a pet. Now, Nala 2 is getting the care and freedom she deserves after a life of darkness in a private home’s attic. She will live out her life on her terms, respected as a wild animal.
