Kristina Wever is one of TCWR’s fantastic Gift Shop Associates. Hailing from Springfield, Missouri, she has a cosmetology license and worked behind the chair for 14 years before joining the Turpentine Creek Family. While cosmetology to non-profit sanctuary life may seem like an odd transition, to Kristina, it was a natural development stemming from her longtime love and appreciation for all animals.
Kristina heard about the Refuge in a book of things to do in Eureka Springs when vacationing with her husband, Ike Wever, and decided to check it out. After hearing the stories of the survivors of the exotic pet trade and seeing the incredible work that Turpentine Creek is doing, Kristina and Ike both knew it was the right fit for them and they began donating their time, energy and talents before officially coming on as Gift Shop Associate and Promotions Coordinator. Kristina explains that she, “wanted to be a part of something greater than [herself]. We do this [work] as a family and no one stands alone, not even the animals.”
In her role as Gift Shop Associate, she is the first person to greet you at the Refuge and will guide you through all that you can expect to experience during your visit. Wearing many hats, Kristina also serves as a front desk agent for our lodging team –making reservations and checking visitors in and out, and aids in our development team by helping sign up new members.
When not at the Refuge, Kristina likes to experiment with new recipes by Rachel Ray and take part in various outdoor pursuits.
