My name is Kyle Jorgensen. I work at Turpentine Creek as a Technical Support Member. I began my career at TCWR in Feb 2010. I have since completed three 6-month animal care internships at the Refuge prior to acquiring my current role. I have a Bachelor degree in Zoology from Humboldt State University in Northern California.
I was born and raised in San Lorenzo, CA, a small town in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the age of 18 I moved to San Francisco to study film making at San Francisco State University. While attending school, I volunteered three days a week at the San Francisco Zoo; where I discovered my love for animals. After three years at the Zoo I decided drop my Cinema studies and pursue a career in the animal care field. I uprooted myself and moved to Orlando, FL were I completed two 6-month internships at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. I then returned to California where I applied to study Zoology at Humboldt State University.
Upon graduating, I stumbled across the website of Turpentine Creek and applied for an Animal Care Internship immediately. As my internship came closer to the end, I found myself not wanting to leave the amazing animals and loving staff members, so I applied to stay onboard for a second term… and then a third. After a year and a half working with the animals, I jumped at the opportunity to help fund raise and increase the Refuge’s online presence. Working in an office at a computer most days isn’t the most glamorous of jobs, but I know I am helping make a difference in these cats’ lives. And I can never go too long without getting out of the office and visiting my feline friends.
