Year-End Summary

So much can happen in only 51 weeks – the 52nd week is still ‘in progress’ only time will tell what will happen. This year we have been very busy.
The year started off well. We spent most of the winter and spring of 2016 fixing up habitats; raising fence heights, painting, fixing doors, building, etc., it was a calm start to what would be a crazy (but good) year at Turpentine Creek.
Only days after 2016 started we took in our first rescue of the year, Bobby the Bobcat. Half a year had passed before we received our next rescue call, Joy the melanistic Coyote was in need of a home in June, then Giselle the Serval in July. We also took in two black bears, Popper and Michael, at the beginning of September. It seemed like a rather calm year, until September 21st, when we took over a facility in Colorado with 110 animals. From September 21st to October 30th, we added 27 new animals to the Arkansas facility, bringing our total animal residents up to over 110 in Arkansas! We’ve also been working hard to find homes for many of the other animals that remained in Colorado.
This year has been filled with loss and gain. Old beloved animals have passed on, which breaks our hearts but it also allows us to open our hearts and home to more animals in need of new forever homes. It is one of the harder aspects of rescuing animals.

We have accomplished so much this year at Turpentine Creek. New habitats, a new veterinary hospital, new furry family members, and new staff members. We can only hope that 2017 will be just as amazing, if not even better than 2016 was. We hope that you get the chance to come out and visit Turpentine Creek in 2017.

Winter is a difficult time for Turpentine Creek. The cooler weather means that our bills go up, big cats eat more in the winter, dens need bedding to stay warm, not as many visitors come, less lodging guests stay overnight, and yet we still have to care for our animals and pay the bills. It is only with your help that we can continue caring for the animals that call Turpentine Creek Home.
